Guruji, please explain what exactly is Vedanta?
Vedanta is the summarised teachings and philosophy of the Vedas. It is contained in the texts of Upanishads, Brahma-Sutras and Bhagavad Gita. The main teaching imparted through these scriptures is that our real nature is divine, and that all we need to seek is the God within. Unfortunately, we are unaware of our true nature and go hankering after false values and beliefs.
It teach us that God dwells within our own hearts as the divine Self or Atman. This divine Self is not affected by our failings or by the fluctuations of our body or mind. It is not affected by our grief or despair or our disease or ignorance. The divine Self or Atman is pure and perfect. It is free from limitations and is one with Brahman. it teaches us that the greatest temple of God lies within the human heart.
Vedanta teaches us that the goal of life is to realize our divinity, to achieve self-realisation, and each one of us must strive to achieve it. it advocates the choosing of any of the four paths in our endeavour to achieve Self-realisation, viz: Bhakti Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Karma Yoga, and Raja Yoga.
