Guruji, is loneliness different from aloneness?I feel very lonely since my husband passed away, after five decades of togetherness. I do not know how I will be able to spend the rest of my life, without him?

Loneliness and aloneness are two different things. Loneliness is a state of mind where one is feeling sorry for oneself. It is a miserable feeling where one is always missing something, worrying after something. In loneliness one tends to get into a state of dependency upon another, almost selfishly. It is a negative feeling altogether.

Aloneness is a wonderful state to be in. It is a positive state of mind where one is constantly in a state of contentment. A happy, blissful and independent state where one desires nothing. Aloneness is a state of deep fulfilment where one feels one with the whole existence.

You have spent the maximum part of your life seeking happiness through worldly activities, material wealth and human love. It is now time for you to transfer your complete attention towards seeking God.

Conquer loneliness by cultivating a feeling of aloneness. In this state of aloneness, seek God. By seeking and loving God you will realise that it the only pure love that a human being can obtain. All human love is temporary and fleeting, while God’s love is permanent and soothing. As you immerse yourself in the Divine, you will find that there is no love greater than God’s love. Make God your constant companion.

Meditation is the easiest method to seek God. Love God not because you require something from Him. Love God simply and truly. When you meditate deeply, a love will come over you such as you have never known.

Watch your thoughts. All your experiences come through your thoughts. It is the company of your thoughts that uplifts you or makes you miserable. The great battle of meditation is with restless thoughts. Kriya Yoga and Beeja Mantra techniques will aid you in your battle against restless thoughts. Sit still in meditation and conquer restless thoughts.

Before this life is snatched away, make God your only goal for the rest of your life. In your aloneness, seek God. Rejoice in God’s bliss and serve others. Do not waste any more time. Every effort you make in your meditation towards seeking God will yield result. Bring your body, mind and soul under discipline and pray to God with all your devotion and strength. If you follow this sincerely, then one day, when you least expect it, you will find God and will continue to be with Him, day and night, right up to the last day of your life on earth.
