Guruji on Mahashivaratri
Dear Children,
Mahashivaratri is celebrated on 14th of this month. Mahashivaratri marks the night of ‘union of Shiva and Shakti’. It is the most sacred and also the darkest of all nights. ‘Shiva’ signals auspiciousness and purity. On this night, we are fortunate to have a special connectivity with the highest of all powers. Meditation during this period will be highly beneficial, both physically and spiritually, for this sacred night signifies the dispelling of darkness and ignorance.
During Mahashivaratri, there is a blending of the material and spiritual synergies, and every meditator on earth will be showered with the fruits of Shiva-consciousness. The only purpose of this human life is to evolve towards divinity, by ridding ourselves of our individual ‘ego’, our attraction towards the world of senses, and our Karma. Therefore, it is necessary that this opportunity is not lost due to laziness or lethargy. Each one of us should utilise this unique night to meditate upon the ‘Shiva-principle’ and to dissolve into ‘Shiva-consciousnness’.
For those of you who can do so, dedicate this day entirely to your inner selves. Spend the full day, contemplating upon Lord Shiva. Fasting on this day is beneficial, or even undertaking a liquid diet is advisable. You may consume coconut water or bel juice, according to requirement. This auspicious period is the most beneficial time for destroying collective negativity through meditation. All of you are advised to engage in meditation, individually or collectively, throughout the night. On this night, all the planets of our solar system will be cosmically aligned, and there will be a natural peaking of cosmic energy.
During meditation, you must ensure that you maintain a vertical position throughout the night. Allow your thoughts to focus upon the the qualities of Shiva. Engage in continuous chanting of the mantra “Aum Namah Shivaya”. When you surrender yourself completely to the presence of Shiva, you will be surprised to find that you are easily able to meditate in a vertical position, throughout the night. For those of you who have never meditated before, it is worthwhile to try and meditate during this Mahashivaratri.
Make a resolution to surrender yourself to Shiva, and you will be able to meditate successfully. Prepare yourself during the day, by fasting, or taking liquid diet, or eating a very light meal. Towards the evening, sit in a comfortable position and continuously chant the ‘panchakshara’ mantra ‘Namah Shivaya’. By and by, you will enter into a deep meditative state, and will be drawn into Shiva-consciousness.
For those of you who are already on the spiritual path, this is the most sacred period to allow your latent negativities to be dissolved through meditation. The period starting from about 6 p.m. in the evening to 6 a.m. in the morning, is the most auspicious time of the Mahashivaratri duration. According to our scriptures, if you can engage yourself in meditation during this sacred period, the meditation you experience is equivalent to thousands and thousands of years of meditation.
Bless you all. May you editate during this Mahashivaratri and take advantage of this great opportunity accorded by Lord Shiva.
